The airline was owned by NRT Nordisk AB, and was formed on 1 April, 1985. On 14 March, 1991 airline commenced scheduled operations between Stockholm Arlanda and London Gatwick. Transwede also specialized in leisure charters from Scandinavia to Europe, the Mediterranean and Florida. In 1991, Transwede cofounded Turkish charter airline Sultan Air. In 1996 Braathens of Norway acquires controling interest in the airline. In 1998 Braathens became sole owner of the airline and rebranded it to Braathens Sverige.
