Union de Transport Aerien or UTA was private scheduled passenger and cargo airline. It was established when UAT and TAI airlines merged October 1st 1963. UTA, like its predecessors provided service between France and former French colonies in Africa, Asia and the South Pacific. Airline inherited fleet of long-range Douglas DC-8-62s. In February 1973 first wide-body, a Douglas DC-10, joined the fleet. First Boeing 747 was delivered in September 1978. Although bulk of UTAs business were long-haul flights, it also provided short and medium haul charters using Sud Caravelle and Douglas DC-6s. UTA was acquired by its chief rival Air France in 1992.
