AAR OZ Asiana Airlines Asiana South Korea

note

Airline was formed when South Korean Government passed resolution to form second national airline to compete with Korean Air. New Airline's proposed name was Seoul Air International, but this was never adopted. Airline started operations with Boeing 737-400 on domestic routes Seoul-Kwangju and Seoul-Pusan. Year later, first international route Seoul-Sendai was operated as non-scheduled flight. From 1991, airline flies to U.S. (LAX) and in 1995 first flights to Europe (Brussels) and Australia (Cairns) are commenced. Today, airline operates worldwide network of scheduled passenger and cargo operations as well as domestic and regional flights to Japan and China. It flies round-the-world cargo flights on route Seoul-Anchorage-New York-Brussels-Seoul. Asiana built its own Hangar, Cargo Center and Asiana House (where company's offices are located) at Kimpo International Airport. Asiana was first South Korean airline to fly to Pyongyang in 55 years when it delivered South Korean delegation in for talks in June 2000. Asiana is member of Star Alliance and has staff of around 8,000.
