One of the largest ACMI lease provider with over 1000 employees and fleet of 30 aircraft. Company was founded by Captain Arngrimur Johannsson and his wife. Air Atlanta provides both passenger and cargo leases and specialized in wide-body aircraft. Large portion of its business are Hadj leases to airlines serving the muslim world but company also provides its own passenger and cargo charters since 1992. In 2004 Air Atlanta purchased majority shares of UK charter airline Excel Airways. In 2005 Air Atlanta acquired another Icelandic airline Islandsflug through its holding company Avion Group. A year later Avion Group acquired French charter operator Star Airlines. Air Atlanta set up a Maltese subsidiary, Air Atlanta Europe, to operate cargo ACMI services. It received an AOC on September 30, 2021
