Scheduled passenger low-cost airline founded by Niki Lauda, former Formula 1 champion, who also sports keen interest in commercial aviation. Niki Lauda has also founded Lauda Air in 1979 which grew into 2nd largest airline in Austria and was acquired by its chief rival Austrian Airlines in 2001. Niki operated its first flight in November 23, 2003 from Vienna to Tenerife using Airbus A320 aircraft.
FlyNiki operates leisure charters from Neckerman Reisen to Mediterranean resorts from points in Austria. Niki also operates scheduled service to Europe from Vienna through its Euro Shuttle product. Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, Rome are served and Moscow has been added in 2007. FlyNiki obtained AOC of former Austrian subsidy of German Aero Lloyd.
Air Berlin holds 24% stake in the airline and both low-cost airlines share schedule.
In 2008 Niki Luftfahrt handled 2.1 million passengers and employed 350 people.
