note
Domestic scheduled passenger airline founded by Spain's government to supplement domestic demand after World War II which Iberia did not meet. Operations commenced in September on Bilbao - Madrid route using Bristol 170. Both Iberia and Aviaco were owned by government agency and their business was coordinated making them effectively work as sister companies rather than competitors. In the 1970s Aviaco also operated charter leisure flights from European cities to Spain's resorts, including Baleares and Canary Islands with fleet of DC-8s. Since 1980s, Iberia gained more and more control of Aviaco, until in 1998 it became sole owner. In 1999 Aviaco was absorbed into Iberia brand.
