BIA KD BIA British Island Airways Britisland UK United Kingdom
IV BUIA - British United Island Airways

note

Airline was formed in summer 1970 as a regional subsidiary of British United Airways. It operated scheduled passenger flights from England to Isle of Man and Channel Islands. In 1982 airline was merged with Air Anglia, Air Wales and Air Westward to form Air UK. However, British Island Airways brand was retained for Air UK's charter subsidiary. Airline acquired second-hand BAC 1-11s and operated charter flights to the continent and the Mediterranean from Gatwick. Entered receivership on February 1, 1990. Airline was briefly acquisition target of International Leisure Group to solidify presence of its Air Europe at Gatwick. This deal did not go through and BIA ceased operations at the end of 1990 when leisure air travel came to halt because of the first Gulf War and recession.
