Formed when became separated from Pan American's NYRBA subsidiary (formed in January 24, 1930 as NYRBA do Brasil S.A.). Officially formed in October 17, 1930. Partially nationalized gradually in 1948 and became fully owned by Brazilian interest in 1961. Panair do Brasil became premium international airline of Brasil. Serving dense domestic and South American network as well as long-haul flights to Europe and middle East. London, Paris, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Munich, Zurich, Rome, Lisbon, Madrid, Istanbul and Beirut were served via Dakar with the piston airliners. Introduction of jets enabled Panair to fly to Iberian peninsula non stop, but its Rome flights made technical stop at Monrovia. Panair also discontinued its domestic network when jets were introduced. Its certification was revoked in favour of Varig in 1965.
