Airline can trace its origin to Robinson Aviation of Ithaca New York an FBO owned by C. S. Robinson which begun operations with Fairchild F-24 in state of New York. Inaugurating flight as Robinson Airlines was conducted on September 19th 1948 using DC-3 airliner. Robinson developed into regional carrier by 1950s with fleet of DC-3's which it used on routes throughout New England. In 1956 Robert Peach purchased Robinson Airlines and renamed it Mohawk Airlines. Airline moved its headquarters two years later from Ithaca to Utica in New York.
Mohawk Airlines made history in 1961 when it introduced first computerized reservation system. Jet service commenced in 1965 with BAC-111s. At its height, airline operated flights throughout New England, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Toronto and Montreal in Canada, Washington DC and Minneapolis MN.
Mohawk Airlines was acquired by Allegheny Airlines in 1972.
