note
Crown Airways was formed by the flight department of the Brockway Glass Co. On February 28, 1969, it received authority to replace Allegheny Airlines on the DuBois (PA) - Pittsburgh route; service began in March. It eventually became an Allegheny Commuter (and later USAir Express) carrier and expanded into other western Pennsylvania and Ohio Valley cities. In 1990, the company broke away from Brockway in a leveraged buyout by two of its managers. In February 1994, certain assets were sold to Mesa Airlines, which took over its operations.
