Aero 2000 was formed as an Argentinian company solely for the purpose of acquisition by LAN. In April 2005 LAN purchased a 49% stake in the carrier. The airline absorbed several hundred employees from bankrupt carriers LAFSA and Southern Winds. It began operations in June 2005 on domestic and eventually moved into international services. In May 2016 it was renamed LATAM Argentina as part of an effort to integrate the LATAM brands. In 17 June of 2020 was cessation of operations of Latam Airlines Argentina, for an undetermined time, is due to the current conditions of the local industry, aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic ceases AOC in Argentina.
