Spring Airlines is a private enterprise that started operations on 18 July 2005 and the first flight on that day was between Shanghai and Yantai. Daily flights to Guilin were also initiated.

Airline started international operations in 2010. Today Tokyo, Sapporo, Nagoya and Osaka in Japan, Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket in Thailand and Jeju and Seoul in South Korea as well as Phnom Pen in Cambodia are among its international destination and 80 destinations they serve. In October 2018 Spring Airlines opened hub in Hebei province at Shijazhuang International airport.
Airline load factor averages at 95% and airline offers cca 30% lower ticket prices than its competitors. Company only sells tickets directly through its mobile and web applications. It is the only privately held airline in China with CAAC's highest safety standard.
