note
BKS Air Transport was founded by three Crewsair employees J Barnaby, T Keegan and C Stevens in Southampton, England and began operations in February 1957 using a DC-3 aircraft. In its beginning, BKS focused on ad-hoc cargo and passenger charters. Scheduled service started in May 1955 between Southend and Leeds and Belfast. In August 1957 Airspeed Ambassador was acquired from BEA. Starting in 1960, BKS introduced car ferry flights between Liverpool and Dublin using Bristol Freighter aircraft. BKS also specialized in transport of livestock. In April 1966 first turboprop, a Vickers Viscount, joined the fleet.
In 1968 BEA bought controlling stake in BKS together with Cambrian Airways and formed British Air Services holding company under which BKS continued to operate. In March 1969 first jet, Hawker Siddeley Trident, entered service on London Heathrow to Newcastle route. In November 1970 BEA took full ownership in the airline and renamed BKS to Northeast Airlines. Airline operated domestic service, as well as scheduled flights to continental Europe, namely West Germany, Benelux, France and Spain. It also operated charter flights to the resorts along the Mediterranean.
