EAA was formed in 1945 to provide air service throughout British colonies in East Africa of Kenya, Uganda, Tanganyika and Zanzibar. Airline started operations using ex RAF/BOAC DH-89 Dragon Rapides. In its early years airline served only regional network in East Africa and Salisbury, Durban, Blantyre and Mozambique.
By 1974 airline served dense domestic network in Kenya and Tanzania. International service were operated from Nairobi and Entebbe to Rome, Athens, Frankfurt, London, Zurich and Copenhagen. Karachi, Bombay and Aden were served in Asia. Addis Ababa, Kinshasa, Tananarive, Blantyre, Kigali, Bujumbura, Lusaka and Mauritius were served in Africa.
