Scheduled passenger regional airline founded by Captain Ingolf Nielsen. Airline is privately owned with majority stake being held by Nielsen family. Airline was one of only 3 to order West German regional jet VFW 614 and was the first to put it in service in August 1975. Jorge Nielsen is its CEO. Between 1998 and 2003 SAS held a stake in Cimber and code sharing agreement was implemented. In December 2008 airline bought some assets of defunct Sterling Airways, including AOC, slots, brand and website. Aircraft and employees were not part of this transaction. Airline was rebranded Cimber Sterling. Airline operates scheduled service to London, Paris, Geneva, Athens, Oslo, Bergen, Stockholm, Norrkoping, Prague, Wroclaw, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Dublin, Bordeaux, Montpellier, Madrid, Salzburg, Belgrade, Sofia, Thessaloniki, Verona, Venice, Nice and charters to many Mediterranean resorts and the Canary Islands from its hubs at Billund, Aalborg and Copenhagen. Airline employes over 850 people and handles over 2 million passengers per year (2009). Airline was loosing money and finaly on May 3rd 2012 ceased operations leaving thousands of stranded passengers.
