First private operator in Greece was formed in 1992 as business jet charter company Aegean Aviation. In March 1999 Aegean Aviation established its airline subsidiary Aegean Airlines. First flight is operated in May between Athens and Heraklion using Avro RJ-100 aircraft. Aegean acquired Air Greece in 1999 and with it came airline's first turboprop aircraft ATR 72s. International flights commenced in 2001 after airline merged with Cronus Airlines. Airline is member of IATA.
In 2009 airline serves domestic market as well as Brussels, Paris, London (Stansted), Milan, Munich, Barcelona, Stuttgart, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Sofia, Rome, Paphos, Larnaca, Istanbul, Bucharest and Cairo.
