note
Airline started operations in 1949 as a local mail, air ambulance, and surveylance carrier in Saint John's, Newfoundland. In 1954 airline moved its headquaters to new International airport in Gander, used at the time by almost all transatlantic airline flights as a technical stop. In 1960 EAP started scheduled passenger operations. Three years later EAP bought its Eastern Canada competitor Maritime Central Airways. EPA also provided ad-hoc charters for other carriers and its planes could be seen in Europe and Middle East at this time. In 1969 its first pure jet, a Boeing 737-200 was delivered. Airline introduced turboprop Hs 748s in 1974 and by 1976 had withdrawn its last Douglas DC-3 from service.
After deregulation of Canada's civil aviation industry, EPA alligned itself with CP Air in 1983. EPA also moved its headquaters to Halifax and operated throughout Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI and as far west as Toronto and Montreal. CP Air and EPA fully integrated by 1984.
