note

Long time leading Dutch charter airline founded by Johan N Block who was co-founder of other two Dutch charter airlines Martinair and Transavia. Airline started operations using Boeing 727 aircraft and catering mainly to customers of Neckermann and Arke Tour agencies. In March 1988 first Boeing 757 joined the fleet. Airline was resurrected twice in its history. First, in the aftermath of the First Gulf War, airline made huge loss compare to moderate profit a year earlier and had to shut down. Already in December 1991 Air Holland returned to skies. This was new company called Air Holland Regional and later Air Holland Charter. Airline again seized operations in 1999, but through new investment was resurrected in 2000. Airline continued to struggle financially and was declared bankrupt in March 2003. Most of its operations were taken up by Holland Exel. Previous operating under code AHR, Air Holland now uses the code HLN after a second re-start.
