Private independent domestic airline started operations between Ryukyu, Kyushu, Honshu, Chugoku and Shikoku islands of Japan in 1953. Airline soon expanded operations and established hubs at Hiroshima and Fukuoka using Convair 240s, De Havilland Dove/Heron and Tawron (Heron fitted with Continental Engines). In May 1965, Toa received its first turbojet NAMC YS-11. In 1971 airline merged with Japan Domestic Airlines to form TDA Toa Domestic Airlines.
