Founded as Air Botnia in 1987 which was acquired in 1998 by SAS Group. Blue1 brand was introduced in 2004 to become SAS Group's Finland subsidiary airline. Flights from Helsinki to European capitals were introduced to compliment its domestic and Scandinavian routes. Blue1 has become direct competitor with Finnair. In 2003 Blue1 becomes full member of Star Alliance, first regional airline to do so. On November 1, 2012, all of Blue 1's flights used the SAS SK code. The airline was sold to CityJet in October 2015, and was merged into its parent in 2016.
