Mokulele Flight Service USA United States

note

Mokulele Flight Service began as a Hawaiian sightseeing tour operation using Piper Navajos. It was founded by Hawaiian native Rebecca Inaba. In 2005 it was sold to Boyer Industries LLC, and subsidiary Mokulele Airlines was set up to begin commuter operations. It began flying to West Maui, Molokai, and Lanai under a codeshare arrangement with go! The following year it began cargo services under an agreement with Aloha Airlines, operating as Aloha Cargo Express. Later in 2008 it entered into agreement with Republic Airways to wet-lease ERJ 170s from Shuttle America in order to begin inter-island jet service. Since the new service would directly compete with go!, the go! express operation would end March 2009, and flights would continue as Mokulele Airlines. The jet operation became a quick financial burden; Republic took a 50% interest in Mokulele in exchange for financial assistance. In addition, Republic took control of the Caravan operation and a Republic vice-president became CEO of Mokulele. In October 2009 Mokulele and go! combined operations under a joint venture in which go! parent Mesa Air Group owned 75% and Mokulele's shareholders owned 25%. This ended the Mokulele jet operation ( go! operated as go!/Mokulele until 2012). In November 2011, Mesa sold Mokulele to Transpac Aviation (Scottsdale, AZ) and more flights and additional airplanes were added. In 2015 it began wet-leasing three airplanes to Sun Air Express for scheduled services from Pittsburgh. In February 2019 the airline was sold to Southern Airways Express. Operations were consolidated on March 14, 2020.
