note

Aeropostal can trace its roots to French Caribbean airline called Lignes Aeriennes Latécoère started using Venezuela for its flights to South America from Guadeloupe and Martinique starting in July 1929. Airline was subsidized by French government which withdrew its subsidy in 1933. Venezuelan government purchased the airline. In 1935 airline was renamed LAV (Linea Aeropostal Venezolana). In 1937 legacy french Lactecoere 28s were grounded and now Venezuelan run company purchased Lockheed 10 Electras and Fairchild 71's to replace them. In 1939 Douglas DC-3s were introduced. Airline started international operations after the WWII serving Boa Vista in the Amazons (1945) and Aruba (1946). In 1947 LAV started to operate flights to New York using Lockheed Constellations. LAV introduced its first tuboprop aircraft, a Vickers Viscount, in March 1956. In 1958 LAV absorbed another international airline in Venezuela - TACA de Venezuela. First jet, a Douglas DC-8, joined the fleet in 1961. Venezuelan government decided to split LAV into domestic and international airline. The international operations of LAV became core of VIASA. LAV was reduced to domestic operator only and functioned as such during 1970s and 1980s using Douglas DC-9 aircraft. In late 1980s LAV took over some of VIASA routes in the Caribbean. Government of Venezuela could not finance LAV and on August 31, 1994, the airline ceased operations.

It was bought by private party and restarted operations in January 1997. Airline changed its name to simple Aeropostal at this time. By 2007, airline and government of Venezuela were at odds because of political and economical reasons. Aeropostal fleet was reduced from 20 plus aircraft to just 4 and service was cut. Civil Aviation Authority of Venezuela also suspended Aeropostal AOC briefly in 2007 and airline ownership changed hands again. The airline suspended operations on September 24, 2017 due to financial problems, but resumed limited options in August 2018. In early 2020 the airline reactivated a single aircraft to operate charter flights, it also changed its code to CW.
