"Airline of Copper" or Ladeco began operations in November 1958 to support Copper mining industry. El Salvador was served as well as Arica, Antofagasta and Calima in the north. El Salvador is center of Copper mining. Puerto Montt and Puerta Arenas were served in the south with hub being in Santiago. By the early 1990s, Ladeco served destinations in Brazil, Peru and as far as Baltimore and Miami in USA, Mexico City and Havana. Airline was absorbed into LAN Chile which increased progressively its share in the airline until 1994 when it owned 100% of the company.
