Scheduled passenger and cargo airline. Scheduled domestic operations began in 1978 using Swearingen Metros on domestic service in Buenos Aires province. LAPA was the first private airline in Argentina competing with government owned Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral. In 1984 Andew Deutsch purchased airline and revamped fleet of Short 330s with SAAB 340s. At this time LAPA operated regional network throughout Buenos Aires province as well as flights to Uruguay. Since 1992 LAPA also operated Boeing 737s on domestic network. Boeing 767 and 757 were operated on international charter flights. Airline went bankrupt and shut down in april 2003 after its workers clashed with those of rival Dinar and caused havoc at airports. In July 2001 airline filed for bankruptch protection. Federal Government intervened and formed new airline LAFSA (Linea Aerea Federal SA) which hired all employees of both airlines.
