note
Bar Harbor began scheduled services in 1968, between points in Maine and onwards to Boston. The airline began with Cessna 402s, then added Beech 99s, Convair 600s, CASA 212s, and Beech 1900s. By the mid-1980s, its route system expanded southward to Washington. It also operated feeder flights for Federal Express with some of its aircraft. On March 30, 1986, it began operating as an Eastern Express carrier. By the end of the year it had opened a Florida operation to feed Eastern at its Miami hub. After Texas Air's acquisition of Eastern Airlines in 1987, it acquired an equity stake in Bar Harbor. As part of the deal, Bar Harbor acquired PBA which had begun to operate services as Continental Express. By the end of 1988, the remainder of the airline had been sold to Texas Air, PBA was closed, and Bar Harbor commenced operations as Continental Express. On September 1, 1990 Britt Airways assumed operations of the Bar Harbor routes. As part of Texas Air's sale of Eastern Airlines, Bar Harbor was sold to Eastern Airlines to continue its Florida operations. Although the airline was close to being sold, the sale was unable to be completed before Eastern ceased operations.
