National airline of Egypt was founded in 1932 as Misrair Airwork. First flight was conducted in 1933 on domestic service from Cairo to Mersa Matruh (Alexandria) using de Havilland DH.83 Dragon aircraft. Misrair changed its name August 1960 to United Arab Airlines when it merged with Syrian Airways. This union lasted only a year. Present title was adopted in October 1971. Egyptair was first African and Middle Eastern airline to join IATA. In 1960 Egyptair became also first African or Middle Eastern airline to fly jet - de Havilland Comet IV. In 2007 Egyptair carried 7.8 million passengers and served 69 cities in 44 countries and surpassed $1 billion in revenue. In July 2008 Egyptair became member of Star Alliance. Egyptairs network streatches from Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Bangkok, Almaty, Beijing, to New York, Montreal (Los Angeles was served also in 1990s) and Johannesburg in the South. Accra, Kano and Lagos are served in West Africa. In Europe, Egyptair serves Berlin, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Paris, London, Budapest, Moscow, Amsterdam, Geneva, Madrid, Milan, Rome, Vienna, Istanbul , Larnaca and Athens.
