Formed as Summit Airways Inc. in Larami Wyoming by Charles Hirsig II. Company was offering flight instruction, airplanes brokerage, and air taxi service in the beginning. In March 1946 airline started scheduled service between Billings, Denver and continuing onto Salt Lake City. On March 17, 1947, the CAB reissued the Temporary Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity of Summit Airways, to Challenger Airlines Company. Operations commenced on May 3rd 1947. Airline operated between Denver Billings and Salt Lake City. By 1948 its headquarters were moved to Denver and airline started cooperate with Denver based Monarch Airlines. In June 1950 Challenger merged into Monarch Air Lines on December 12/49 and on June 1st company became Frontier Airlines.
