note
Charter Air Transport began operations as a charter service based at Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport, a subsidiary of Business Aircraft Group. The company was later acquired by travel provider Mauiva, and its headquarters was moved to Kissimmee, Florida. It currently operates casino charters, sport team charters, and corporate shuttles with its fleet of Brasilias. It also flies for Mauiva's Fly Cruise program, which operates cruise-like packages in the US. More recently the airline began operating EAS services in the Midatlantic region. Flights are operated as public charters by ViaAir LLC using Brasilias operated by Via Airlines Inc., or as scheduled services using ERJ-145s by Via Airlines. In December 2017 it began scheduled service from an Austin TX base using the ERJ-145s. Flights were suspended in May 2019 due to effects of the pilot shortage. A failed acquisition by charter broker Ashley Air forced the airline into bankruptcy in October 8, 2019. In July 2020, it was purchased by Wexford Capital, and its name was changed to Sterling Airways. The company continues to operate charters with an ERJ-145. It also operates scheduled services within Alaska, under a joint venture with Alaska Seaplanes, as Aleutian Airways. The Alaskan services began November 17, 2022.
