note

Ansett New Zealand was founded as joint venture of Ansett Australia and Newmans Travel Agency which operated its own airline called Newmans Air and Brierley holding. Airline begun scheduled domestic operations in 1987 between Aucland, Wellington and Christchurch operating Boeing 737-200s. Newmans Air, which operated DHC-7s at the time to tourist destinations of Rotorua and Mount Cook, was also absorbed into Ansett New Zealand. Fleet renewal was necessary to keep airline competitive and BAe-146 alsong with DHC-8s started to replace existing aircraft in early 1990s. In 1996 Ansett New Zealand was sold to News Corporation to enable Air New Zealand to take control of Ansett Australia. This also marked beginning of troubled times for Ansett New Zealand marred by labor disputes and frequent strikes. News Corporation sold Ansett New Zealand in 2000 to Tasman Pacific Regional Airline. Tasman Pacific operated at the time QANTAS New Zealand service. In 2001 Anzett New Zealand declared bankruptcy and was liquidated.
