Founded as a replacement of KLM's Dutch West Indies operations in 1964. Operations begun in August 1964. Company was initially owned by KLM, but since January 1969 ALM was wholly owned by Netherlands Antilles government. It operates network throughout the West Indies and Miami, Atlanta and Fort Lauderdale in the U.S. It also serves Caracas and Paramaribo in South America. By 2001, mismanagement and alleged embezzlement by airline management forced airline to declare bankruptcy and subsequent liquidation. Company was owned at that time by Fundashon DC Beheer through DC Holdings. DC Holdings created new replacement airline called Dutch Caribbean Express which collapsed in October 2004.
