note

Trans Island Airways began flying in 1977 as an air-taxi service using Piper Senecas, a Cessna 310, and Cessna 402s. It was related to a Bahamian air-taxi service with the same name. In 1979 it launched scheduled service between Florida and the Bahamas, as well as intra-Florida services, trading as Trans Inland Airways. In 1982 the US company was sold and renamed Trans Air. It linked up with Air Florida as one of its commuter partners until 1984. On January 15, 1986, it began operating as a Piedmont Commuter carrier, but operational problems caused that affiliation to end on March 28. The loss of the Piedmont code-share caused the airline to drop its intra-Florida services, but continued to fly from Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach with Cessna 402s. In May the airline was again sold to a Florida tour operator, however in mid-August 1986, it ceased operations and filed for bankruptcy
