note
Opearations commenced in 1931 as Wyoming-Montana Air Lines in cooperation with Border Airlines of Great Falls. Wyoming Air Service was awarded mail contracts or the Cheyenne-Billings and Cheyenne-Pueblo routes in 1934. Company expanded service as far as South Dakota and changed its name to Inland Air Lines in July 1938. Its main line ran from Billings in Montana to Pueblo Colorado with stops at Sheridan, Casper, Cheyenne, Denver and Colorado Springs. Its schedule was tied to United Air Lines trans-continental stops at Cheyenne, Varney Speed Lines at Pueblo and Northwest Airlines at Billings so passengers could easily transfer. Western Air Lines purchased controlling stake in the airline in 1944 but continued to operate it as Inland until 1952 when it was fully incorporated under Western brand. Its home base airport Wardell Field in Casper was sold that year and eventually became town of Bar Nunn.
