note

Presidential Airways was founded in 1985 by Harold J Pareti an ex People Express officer. Company started low cost airline service in October 1985 using Boeing 737s on Washington - Boston route. Company transformed its business model and started regional feeder service in 1986 using BAe 146s, Beech 1900s and 99s acquired from Colgan Air in August 1986. Presidential became Continental Jet Express in 1987. In February 1988 PXV started to provide feeder service at Washington Dulles for United because Continental partnership unraveled as Continental reduced its presence at Dulles. Company had to sell its charter business Key Airlines to World Airways and rationalize its fleet of Beech 1900s and 99s acquired through Colgan merger by replacing them with Bae 31s. At this time PXV served 25 cities in Mid-Atlantic and eastern seaboard from its hub at Dulles. It placed order for 15 new DHC-8-300s in 1988. Company was loosing money and an attempt to establish hub at Birmingham AL had failed. Debt laden, Presidential ceased operations on December 5th 1989.
