QBA QB Quebecair Quebecair Canada
Rimouski Airlines

note

Quebecair was full service airline based in Montreal, Quebec. It was founded as Rimouski Airlines which merged in 1953 with Gulf Aviation and Quebecair name was adopted. Airline operated DC-3s, DHC-2s and Beech 18 in its early years. In 1958, first turboprop, a Fokker F-27, was introduced. First jet was BAC 111 which was introduced in 1969. Sixties and Seventies proved to be golden age for Quebecair. Quebecair operated scheduled domestic service in Quebec and Ontario provinces and northeastern USA. Airline even introduced long-haul charters in 1974 when it took delivery of a Boeing 707. Quebecair 707s could be seen at airports around Europe, Caribbean, California, Florida and Hawaii. Government of Quebec province became shareholder. Airline deregulation and other factors brought trouble for the airline in 1980s. By 1985, Quebecair was on verge of bankruptcy and operated at greatly reduced capacity. In July 1986 CP Air took a 35% stake in what remained of Quebecair. In 1987, the airline was renamed Inter-Canadien.
