United Express commuter service only. Owned by Mesa Air Group. Westair began operations as STOL Air, which operated commuter services in northern California out of San Rafael and Santa Rosa with Islander/Trislander aircraft In 1979 airline acquired Santa Rosa based Golden Eagle Airlines and changed its name to Westair. Through this merger Cessna 402s joined the fleet. The airline became a subsidiary of Pacific Express Holding which formed the jet operator Pacific Express. In 1983 Westair was sold to Westcom Holding, severing ties with the jet operator.The airline added turbine equipment, including Twin Otters, Shorts 330/360s, and Bandeirantes. In 1986 it became a United Express carrier, and flights were eventually expanded into southern California. In 1987, a separate carrier, NPA, was launched to operated United Express service in the Pacific Northwest. In December 1989 another Westair division, Atlantic Coast Airlines, assumed United Express routes at Washington (Dulles). By the end of 1990 Westair and NPA merged. In December 1991, Atlantic Coast was sold off to a group of investors. On May 29, 1992 the airline was acquired by Mesa Air group, which continued to operate Westair separately. In 1998, United terminated its code sharing agreement with Mesa and Westair, causing Westair to cease operations.
