note
Trans European Airways was established as charter and inclusive tour operator by Georges Gutelman. Like many of that era, TEA responded to booming demand in leisure industry that post war prosperity brought.
TEA commenced operations in 1971 with leased Eastern Air Lines Boeing 720. TEA became one of the first airlines to introduce Airbus A300 when it received its first in November 1974.
TEA also operated ACMI charters for other carriers and built its own maintenance facilities under name TEAMCO (TEA Maintenance Co.) which carried out in house maintenance and provided spare capacity for others.
TEA established its sister companies in UK, France and Switzerland in the 1980s. TEA had to cease operations because it was unable to weather downturn in airline business at the beginning of 1990s. TEA Switzerland was only one to survive until 1997 when acquired by Easyjet and rebranded Easyjet Switzerland.
