Joint venture of Thai Government, Thai Airways and SAS Scandinavian Airlines System. Airline was set up to separate Thai Airways international and domestic operations. Services commenced May 7 1960 with leased Douglas DC-6s from SAS. First widebody a DC-10 leased from UTA was introduced in May 1975. Airline has become third largest in southeast Asia and serves Europe, Middle East, USA, Australia and New Zealand as well as flights throughout southeast and northeast Asia. Extensive domestic network is also served since 1988 when Thai Airways which operated domestic flights only at that point was integrated into Thai International.
