First low cost Australian Airline. Founded as Impulse Airlines. Impulse Airlines became fully owned subsidiary of Qantas and all flights were conducted as Qantaslink - a low cost link between Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane. Emergence of Virgin Blue low cost airline prompted QANTAS to establish its own budget carrier and decision was made to re-launch its Qantaslink brand. In April 2004 Qantaslink was rebranded Jetstar Airways Pty Limited and headquarters were moved from Avalon to Melbourne. Flights commenced on 25th of May. All 14 B717's of Qantaslink were repainted into Jetstar livery. Airline's first A320-232, VH-JQG (cn 2169), rolled out at Toulouse 8 June 2004.Jetstar commenced international operations in December 2005 when it launched service to Christchurch New Zealand. Jetstar have since opened many trans Tasman Sea routes and in June 2009 started domestic service from Auckland New Zealand. Jetstar established international hubs at Gold Coast, Sydney and Darwin. Airline acquired long-haul A330 jets and introduced long-haul flights to Japan, Hawaii, Philippines and Thailand. Its aim is to become world's first budget airline.
