note

Carnival can trace its origins to Majestic Air. Majestic Air provided air connections for its owner, the Carnival Cruise Lines. Carnival Air Lines name was adopted in 1989. Carnival Air Lines specialized in providing air connection to cruise ship vacationers from cities in the U.S. to Florida and also provided all inclusive tours to the Caribbean resorts. Company was purchased by Pan Am (its second incarnation) in September 1997, and changed its trade name to Pan American Airways. The airline filed for bankruptcy on February 26, 1998 and suspended scheduled operations. The airline was rescued from bankruptcy by Guilford Transportation on June 29, 1998, and resumed scheduled flying October 7, 1999, between Portsmouth NH and Sanford/Orlando using Carnival Air Lines AOC. The airline expanded with flights from secondary cities in the northeast and midwest to Florida and eventually the Caribbean. Due to financial problems and a dispute with its pilots union, the airline ceased operations October 31, 2004.
