Charter airline formed by A. P. Møller - Maersk Group Shipping Line in January 1969 when it purchased Falck Air. Operations started in January 1970 using Fokker F-27s on domestic routes to Odense, Karup and Skystrup. Domestic and Faroe Islands services were operated in cooperation with SAS and Cimber under DANAIR brand effectively making Maersk feeder airline for SAS. Maersk Air also formed helicopter division which primarily catered to the needs of oil companies around Faroe Islands in the North Sea.
After the Great Belt Fixed Link bridge was completed in 1998, domestic boardings declined significantly.
In the 1970s airline expanded into inclusive tour charters. Scheduled international operations commenced in 1981. Its fortunes declined after 2001. It was purchased by FL Group which owned Denmark's premier charter airline - Sterling.
