Founded in 1980 by pilot Bernd Walter as air taxi and flight instruction company based at Dortmund airport. LGW started operations using Cessna 206 Stationair aircraft. Company specialized in air charters to Westerland/Sylt resort in German North Sea. After the reunification of Germany in 1991, LGW offered scheduled passenger service to Rostock and Erfurt from Dortmunt using Dornier 228 turboprop. By 2003 LGW served Leipzig, Berlin Tempelhof, Dresden, Koln, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Nürnberg. Since 2007, LGW is part of Air Berlin Group - holding company of German second largest airline Air Berlin.
