It moved its base to Salisbury MD. By 1981 Henson's network served Maryland and Virginia centers feeding into the hubs of Philadelphia, Baltimore (BWI), Washington DCA/IAD using DHC-7s and Short SD-330s. In October 1983 it was purchased by (original) Piedmont Airlines and started trading as Piedmont Regional. On 2-1-1987 Henson started service in 11 Florida cities as Piedmont Shuttle Link using DHC-8s. This network also included destinations in the Bahamas. At this time, Henson started to handle over 1 million passengers annually. It has become second largest regional airline in USA serving 45 cities. In July 1989 (original) Piedmont was acquired by USAir and Henson once again traded as Allegheny Commuter. Its corporate name was changed to Piedmont Airlines in 1993. Piedmont merged with Allegheny Commuter Airlines (dba Allegheny Airlines) in 2004.
