Began commuter operations as Harrisburg Commuter Airlines, serving Harrisburg, Baltimore and Washington. By 1968 it had changed its name to Pennsylvania Commuter Airlines and added State College and Lancaster. In 1973 it became an Allegheny Commuter carrier, and in November 1980, began trading as Pennsylvania Airlines. In April 1985 it was acquired by USAir's parent. In July 1, 1992 it was merged with Allegheny Commuter Airlines (Suburban Airlines dba). Pennsylvania Commuter then took the Allegheny Commuter Airlines name (as a dba). On April 12, 1995 it shortened the dba to Allegheny Airlines. Finally on July 1, 2004, it merged into Piedmont Airlines.
