note
Shuttle America was founded by former airline executive David Hackett with plans to operate services in the northeast from a base at Bradley International Airport. With a fleet of Dash 8-300s, the airline eventually operated routes serving, Hartford (Bradley), Bedford (MA), Buffalo, New York (LaGuardia),Trenton, and Greensboro. On April 17, 2001 the airline entered bankruptcy, and its route system shrunk as aircraft were returned to creditors. The airline was purchased out of bankruptcy by a unit of Wexford Capital, and on October 24, it began operating as a US Airways Express carrier using three leased Dash 8-100s. By early 2002, it began to take over the SAAB 340 operation of (US Airways Express carrier and Wexford subsidiary) Chautauqua Airlines as the latter carrier moved to all jets. Operations were concentrated around US Airways Philadelphia and Pittsburgh hubs. In July 2004, it began operating as a United Express carrier from the Washington (Dulles) hub, then ended its US Airways Express operations in October. In May 2005, Shuttle America was acquired by Republic Airways Holdings (majority-owned by Wexford). The airline began operating ERJ 170s for United Express in June. On September 1, 2005, it began operating ERJ 170s as Delta Connection. From November 19, 2008 it operated a small fleet of ERJ 170s in Hawaii inter-island services for Mokulele Airlines, however heavy losses ended this operation in October 2009. On January 1, 2015 it assumed the operation of ERJ-145 aircraft which were previously operated by Chautauqua Airlines. On February 25, 2016, parent Republic Airways Holdings and its subsidiaries filed for bankruptcy. The ERJ-145 operations ended in August. Shuttle America's last flights operated on January 30, 2017; operations were merged into Republic Airlines on the next day.
