Wings West began flying on November 11, 1979 from Santa Monica to the Mammoth Lakes area using a twin Cessna. By the mid 1980s, the airline expanded throught southern California and into Arizona with a fleet of Beech C99s and Swearingen Metros. The airline became an American Eagle carrier in une 1986.
Wings West was acquired by AMR on August 9, 1987. In 1998 it was merged with Simmons Airlines and Flagship Airlines to become American Eagle Airlines.
