Scheduled full service domestic airline was founded in November 1992 with the help of Air China. Owner of the airline is city of Shenzhen, which was one of the first special economic zones designated in China to promote free trade and enterprise. Shenzhen benefited from its location near Hong Kong. Airline commenced operations in September 1993. In 2004, Shenzhen Airlines and Lufthansa founded all cargo airline Jade Cargo International. In 2006 Shenzhen Airlines founded, together with Mesa Air Group of USA, regional carrier Kunpeng Airlines. Mesa Air Group has since sold its stake. Shenzhen Airlines serves 80 points in China as well as Osaka, Bali, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Seoul and Singapore. Shenzhen Airlines has been profitable since its foundation and employes over 8,000 people (2008). By 2017, airline was handling over 24 million passengers annually becoming 4th largest in China. Airline became Star Alliance member in Nov 2012.
