note
Northern Airways began operations in 1956 as an FBO and air-taxi based in Burlington. Scheduled services began in 1968 using a Hamilton Westwind. In 1969 it became a replacement carrier for Mohawk Airlines in the Adirondack region. After an ownership change in 1970, the airline name was changed to Air North, however the FBO and air-taxi remained Northern Airways. After Mohawk Airlines merger with Allegheny, services were branded as Allegheny Commuter. On June 15, 1979, Air North left the Allegheny Commuter system and operated independently. In October 1984, the airline was purchased by Brockway Glass Inc. and merged into Clinton Aero to form Brockway Air. The owners of Air North held on to Northern Airways, which operated DC-3 freighter services in the 1980s, until that operation was sold to Bennington-based Business Air.
