note

National airline of Kenya was formed in January 1977. Demand for International travel to and from Kenya was largely filled by East African Airways consortium up until then. EAA ceased to trade in 1976 and Kenya Airways was intended to fill the void. Operations started quickly. Already in February Kenya Airways secured lease for two Boeing 707s from British Midland Airways and service to London, Athens, Rome and Frankfurt began. For regional network, Kenya obtained Douglas DC-9s and Fokker F-27 served domestic destinations. Both of these were former EAA assets. In 1996 KA was privatized. In 1997 first Boeing 737-300 arrives, starting replacement of aging Douglas DC-9s. Kenya Airways went through rapid expansion and modernization in 21st century. Airline has been voted consistently one of the best in East Africa. In 2003 KA bough 49% interest in Tanzania's domestic carrier Precision Air Services. In 2004 first Boeing 777 joined the fleet. In 2008 KA carried over 2.6 million passengers. Kenya Airways serves dense regional network. In West Africa Dakar, Abidjan, Freetown, Accra, Cotonou, Monrovia and Douala and Youande in Cameroon are served. London, Paris and Amsterdam in Europe, Hong Kong, Mumbai and Guangzhou in Asia, Cairo and Dubai in the Middle East. KA also serves island of Seychelles, Madagascar and Johannesburg.
