Scheduled international passenger airline created when Volo do Brasil bought trade names VARIG and Rio-Sul in an auction of the original VARIG. Company started operations on December 14th 2006 when new AOC was issued. Comapny was bought on March 28th 2007 by Brazilian low cost operator GOL for nearly $320 million. Airline was then transformed into single class international operator for GOL. By September 2008 VARIG operations were integrated into GOL's airline operating certificate but continued to be marketed as separate brands. By June 2009, VARIG brand was retired and only GOL is used.
